Turmeric (‘Olena)

Commonly known around the world as Turmeric, it has long been used for its distinctively spicy flavor. In ancient Hawaii it was known as ‘Olena, used in both ritual and healing, for a purging of the bad energy’s that build up.  The ancient Hawaiians pounded and pressed the ginger like root into a juice mixed with water, ceremonially, the traditional use for `Olena was thought to contain much Mana, spiritual power. Pieces of the crushed root mixed with sea water are sprinkled to remove negative influences from places, persons and things. Typically, when someone is ill, or when a home or other place is to be newly occupied and needing blessing, a ceremony is held. The high regard they held for the ‘Olena, was for good reason. The purifying qualities of Turmeric was traditionally used to treat consumption, tuberculosis, bronchitis, colds and asthma, the root being lightly cooked and then eaten. It has a broad application of uses in many ancient cultures from South East Asia.  The compact rhizomes contain anti- cancer benefits, in clinical trials it has been credited for shrinking tumors and warding off the separation of cells in general protecting the body from development of cancers.  The healing benefits of this powerful rhizome are numerous, and it is well known in eastern medicine for its seemingly limitless medicinal values. Turmeric is an excellent natural antiseptic, antibiotic and anti-bacterial, healing wounds both inside and out. It contains digestive enzymes, which can be used to treat internal stomach problems, such as ulcers, Crohns and Irritable Bowel Syndrome.  Chock Full of antioxidants, Turmeric heightens the immune systems responses to disease.  The plant is Capable of cleansing the blood of impurities, and strengthening blood vessels.
