Tax Donations

The Internal Revenue Service [see Reg section 1.170A-13(b)] allows for non-cash donations of up to $250 for property which are supported by a receipt which provides a detailed description (but not the amount) of the donated property.  Relandscapers.com will provide a receipt from a non-profit recognized under section 501(c)3 which you can use to substantiate your donation.   Relandscapers.com does not provide an assessment of the dollar value of the plants donated nor does it warrant or guarantee the deductibility of these donations.  We recommend you speak to a qualified tax professional on these matters.

Non-cash donations up to $500 must include a good faith estimate of the value of the goods. Non-cash donations that exceed $500 have additional reporting requirements and Non-cash donations that exceed $5,000 must be separately appraised by an independent appraiser.

Relandscapers.com will periodically post comparable pricing from popular local nurseries.  These postings will help you decide the dollar value of your donation.  The amount you claim should take into consideration the condition of the plants and the net (after expenses) value of the plants.

In order to document your donation, you must contact us, arrange a pick up and receive a written receipt which provides a detailed description of what is being donated.   There is a $30 minimum pick-up fee for driving to your location, loading the plants, and temporarily planting the plants for resale.  The fee may be higher depending on the size of the pick-up, the distance and cost to replant.  To help us prioritize and schedule pickups, please take a picture of the plants you want to have removed and email it to us with some comments on what  you would like to have done.  If you are not sure how to send us a picture, send us an email or give us a call and describe your plants.   It would be helpful to know the amount and types of plants, the condition of the plants and degree of effort needed to remove and replant the plants.

Relandscapers.com does not accept donations of all plants and reserves the right to decline plant donations which we believe to be invasive and disruptive to the Hawaii‘s fragile environment.  Numerous vines, weeds and recently introduced plants are invasive and overwhelm Hawaii’s delicate environment and we do not want to promote the spread of invasive species.
